In Memory of Sam Elliott

About This Campaign

A message from one of Sam's best friends, Mike Slaughter:

Our dear friend Sam Elliott, 54, of Lawrenceburg, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, April 26, 2020. He was born December 11, 1965 in Little Rock, Arkansas. Sam came to Cincinnati in 1992 with his wife Teresa for career pursuits and raised two incredible children, daughter Sarah and son Paul. While Sam was a hardcore Razorbacks and Cardinals fan he came to adopt Cincinnati as home.  Sam’s greatest impact was his friendship. He referred to it as “the Elliott Charisma” and you would be hard pressed to find anyone who could disagree. Sam’s family and his friends want to honor Sam’s legacy through donations to BBBS because Sam absolutely loved children. Sam loved baseball and of course his “Redbirds” and anytime he saw a child sitting near he would ask "is this where the handsome people sit” and then of course strike up a conversation with them and make them laugh at his silliness throughout the game.

Sam had the greatest sense of wit that always showed up on the golf course.  If he hit the ball two feet from the cup,he would look at you and say “that’s good right”…then he would have to rib you the rest of the day because he had to ask you for the gimme. Sam was always the first to pick up a check…wings and beer were our vices and we never had a conversation that Sam did not have to talk about Sarah and Paul and his nephew Nicholas. When you were done you knew more about his family than you did your own.  Sam was such a gentle soul, funny, respected, well-read yet simple.  This is a guy that used a rubber band for a wallet for all 28 years that I got to be his friend.

We were all Sam’s best friends. We loved him and he loved us. Pretty simple. We want your help to honor Sam. Sam leaves us broken-hearted but with a legacy of friendship that can't be broken.  Sam will forever be part of us and proud that his family and friends are there sitting next to him in the handsome section helping lift a child up.

We Love you Sammy!

My thoughts and prayers are with Sam’s family. May you find peace in the memories of how great of a man he was and the positive impact he made on so many. I went on one golf trip with Sam and he welcomed me to the group without hesitation and was a friend ever since.

Sammy – since the day we met, you were like a brother to me. The “Elliot charisma” and your genuine personality were so damn likeable. Anyone who ever met you, knew you lit up the room as soon as you walked in. More than our friendship, I will always cherish how much you taught me. I learned so much from you; from category management to how to be a better friend, father, and husband. You always made me laugh even if it was teaching me that a 5-footer was a gimme’, or that the Elliott’s could catch any card on the river and that they never lose at dice. Whether it was a golf trip, a day at the ballpark, a football game, a day at Keenland, or a top-to-top with “muckety-mucks”, some of my fondest memories in life and greatest adventures were with you by my side. That will never be replaced but I will have those memories forever. In your own way, I’m certain you have everything scouted out by now, and know where the wide fairways, smooth greens, hot tables, and great bar stools are….please save me a spot.

Sam was a great guy to hang out with and such a pleasure to be around. He always made lemons into lemonade. When the pace of golf was slow, he was never frustrated. He would just take out his Disney character kids fishing pole and "wet a line" on the golf course ponds entertaining us with his ability to catch a fish bigger than the pole. Sam allowed me to be an honorary Elliott for one of our annual golf trips to Myrtle Beach. I lived an Elliott's life that week with slow country music (both old and new), ice cold Coors, golf, poker, and many many stories and memories that I will forever cherish. I miss you brother.
